Fascinator Designs

Choosing the right accessories for an outfit can be very difficult.  For budding fasionistas, finding vintage-inspired accessories can be even harder.  Finding that one piece to make your outfit pop is the holy grail of fashion.  Going to High Tea?  The races?  Need an alternative to your bridal veil for the reception?  Going for that burlesque or Pin Up Girl look?  All these can be achieved with a fascinator.  From plain jane to femme fatal in one easy step.

Dazzling Blue Feather

Fascinator - Dazzling Blue Feather

What is a fascinator, you might ask?  A fascinator is a hair accessory made with feathers, silk flowers, beads, crystals, rhinestones, ribbon, or netting, attached to the hair with either a comb, clip, or headband.  Fascinators vary greatly in shape and size, from a simple feather on a headband, to very flashy mini top hat with huge ostrich plumes and flowers.  They come in a variety of styles for the formalist of occasions, or for a simple night out.  Fascinators are particularly popular in the British and Australian horse racing circuit, and at weddings, worn either by guests or the bride herself.

This trend is also popular in the emerging world of burlesque.  Modern burlesque dancers have been known to wear an intricate fascinator instead of the elaborate headdresses of their predecessors.  Also the pin-up girl look can be kicked up a notch with a fancy flower fascinator.  It has been said that real ladies wear hats, but in modern times, hats have become passe.  A fabulous hair accessory can achieve a similar polished look, while still remaining modern and fashionable.  Fascinators are ideal if you don’t like the idea of wearing a proper hat, and are easy enough to fix in place just before you arrive at your party or function.  Ease and elegance, what more can a girl ask more?

Jam packed Question, Dress and Decor Clash or Compliment?

AHeartsM asked:

I look good in this dress this bride has on… But only in ivory, because white doesn’t compliment my skin tone. Wearing black shoes, and eventually by the reception a beautiful black feather fascinator from Etsy.

But does it (the style and ivory color) compliment or clash with a wedding with these colored flowers in the picture below and black linens?

Should the dress be more contemporary rather than traditional like the one I listed above?

here are the flowers…

What are the names of this blueish purple flower? Does ANYONE know?

The idea is to get a real funky vibe, as we are both definitely not traditional.

Would accenting these flowers and black linen with peacock feathers or black ostrich feathers (in the tall centerpieces) and black and white damask be a no no? (the damask being only used as a pocket for our CD’s…)

Is this idea overkill? What would you suggest? I have been through 5 wedding inspirations and I am getting ready to SCREAM!

Thanks for the help lol!

Name for an online hat shop? 10 point for best answer?

Lucy C asked:

hello

A friend and I will be selling our own fascinator/ hat/ hairband designs online. We are aiming to design head wear for events such as horse racing, classy parties etc.

We are struggling with a name, we are Rachael and Lucy and decided initially on Racy Couture, as it is a collaboration of our names and is inkeeping with the theme of hats for the races. However we have suggested this name to people and they don’t like it!!

Was wondering what you all think? Or if you have any alternative suggestions?? :)

Wedding Etiquette – white dress embroidered with green?

Alfie asked:

I have bought an outfit to wear to my boyfriends’ brothers’ wedding, and I am now panicking about whether or not it is appropriate!

The dress is white, knee length, not too fitted or at all revealing, but has lots of green embroidery and thick green belt/sash around the waist that ties at the back. I plan to wear it with a green bag, green shoes, green fascinator and green jewellery. However I have now read that wearing white is NEVER acceptable at a wedding!

The bride is wearing lilac but I am now worried that my dress may be inappropriate even though I thought it was just a pretty summery dress!
Thanks everyone for your comments – I think I’ll go ahead and wear it!

You have all made me feel way better about it though, especially as the wedding is tomorrow (eek) and I have nothing else to wear!

Does anyone know how I can choose the best answer? Its the first time I’ve posted a question on here!

superb lyricist assured to smack a hater
absurd rhyming decapitator
spit destruction until muthafuckin microphones malfunction
conducting, beatings with nouns and conjunctions
the author of authenticity

just wanna be great like Pac, who’s restin in Heaven
so I’ll bury rappers and their block
turn a battle spot to a burial plot
spur your skull, shatter your knot, I’m leaving the comp.
stuttering, stunned in amazement
heart fluttering, brain flooded, no longer complacent
single handedly slamming and slaying whatever their saying
into the pavement, face it
with scriptures and bars I’m sicker than a sars patient
when constructing paragraphs I’m an abstract architect
attack and spark like a tec
my thoughts’ll cost you, put you in debt, just to pay attention
and as far as rapping if my name gets mentioned
you’ll get a lyrical @ss whipping free of admission…
submissons, next for a ninja turtle, leave’em injured internal

Veil help?

Zarina asked:

I am having a Victorian-ish wedding, but not strictly. That period lasted until 1901, and I know I have seen images of women wearing fascinators or birdcage veils (later they were more popular in the 1920s-1950s, making a come-back now), but all I can find are horrifyingly long veils in the most recent images I have found. Am I confused, did they not wear short veils then?

Thanks in advance!
